How to Request a Home Visit
Your co-operation in attending the surgery if at all possible is greatly appreciated. A doctor can see three or four patients (sometimes more) in surgery, compared to driving to visit one patient on a home visit. Home visits are for those who are too ill or physically unable to attend. All Home Visits are triaged by a clinician and where possible telephone contact will be made to the requestor/patient prior to a visit taking place.
We receive a large number of requests for home visits each day. It is important that we know the reason for the request so that the doctor can prioritise his/her visiting schedule. We aim for a Clinician to visit on the day of the request for urgent conditions.
It is helpful if requests for home visits are made before 10:30 and full details of the patients' name, age, address, telephone number and reason for visit are given.
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
